Six Palestinians Died Waiting for Aid in Gaza Over 80 hurt
tragedy strikes as Gaza faces humanitarian crisis amid Israeli military plans
Six Palestinians were murdered and hundreds wounded while waiting for help in Gaza City, deepening Gaza’s humanitarian catastrophe. The Israeli military’s intentions to evacuate 1.4 million Rafah Palestinians before a major offensive worsen the situation.
The incident occurred after Israeli troops bombarded a UN food distribution site in southern Rafah, killing at least five people, including a devoted UNRWA employee.
UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini condemned the regular attacks on UN buildings and workers as serious violations of international humanitarian law.
Israel is urging 1.4 million Gazans to go to Rafah in preparation for a military attack to the south to reduce deaths. Israeli military spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari proposed “humanitarian islands” to supply civilians with temporary accommodation, food, and water.
However, humanitarian groups and nations, including Israel’s friends, have warned of the dire consequences of a military entry into heavily populated regions.
The UN has warned that most of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents are uprooted and a quarter are starving. Rafah, Gaza’s major assistance entry point, is vital as the crisis escalates.
Meanwhile, truce talks before Ramadan have failed, escalating tensions. In another development, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) published footage of a drone attack on a Hamas official in Lebanon, highlighting the conflict’s wider ramifications.
International efforts increase to prevent further escalation and save civilians caught in the crossfire as Hezbollah terrorists and the Israeli military exchange fire in Lebanon.
