Israeli Military Discipline suspends officers in response to an airstrike in Gaza’s World Central Kitchen

Published:

The Israeli Military Discipline bans the officers after airstrike on Gaza’s World Central Kitchen. The newly created humanitarian channels are opened and the UN asks Israel to stop selling its weapons.

Two officers of the Israeli military and three others had been disciplined and reprimanded after drone strikes in Gaza that led to the death of seven aid workers. The investigation revealed that the officers had committed many mistakes, disregarded the critical information and violated the army’s rules of engagement. This statement was made in the midst of the accusations of Israel, who was even by the United States, with regard to the protection of the Palestinian civilians in Gaza.

In the face of international pressure, Tel Aviv promised to open two humanitarian ways out of the Gaza Strip. The spokesperson of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office responded by saying that the Erez crossing, the only border point into northern Gaza, would be opened temporarily. As well, Israel will enable humanitarian assistance to be delivered through the Ashdod port and allow the flow of additional Jordanian aid across the other land crossing. But the exact amount and kind of relief to be allowed were not mentioned as well.

Besides this, the UN’s highest human rights forum has approved a resolution calling on countries to stop selling arms or shipping them to Israel. The measure which 28 voted in favor, 6 against, and 13 abstained seeks to prevent the human rights violations against the Palestinians during the military campaign by Israel in Gaza. It also demands for independent inquiries of arms as well as equipment that can be used by soldiers or dual-use items that can be used against the Palestinians. The Western states were in a disagreement about the resolution; some opposed while the others supported.

The Israeli government, alongside its US counterpart, has often criticized the UN Human Rights Council for its perceived anti-Israel bias, and they cite as an example the over-representation of Israel in the council compared to other countries.
