For its 2025 PhD Scholarships, Brandenburg University of Technology (BTU) Cottbus–Senftenberg is accepting applications for both fully financed Full PhD Scholarships, which last 36 months, and Short-term PhD Scholarships, which last six months. These scholarships offer a great chance to do research at one of Germany’s top universities and are available to outstanding doctoral candidates from all academic and scientific disciplines at BTU. By September 24, 2025, at 12:00 PM CEST, applications must be emailed to the university as a single PDF. Successful applications will start receiving funding as early as January 2026. Up to two letters of recommendation that explicitly highlight the applicant’s academic strengths, research relevance, and originality are required, as well as a thorough research proposal that is four to six pages long.
The chosen candidates will be notified by early December of the Awarding Commission’s meeting in early November 2025. Although PhD programs in Germany are tuition-free, students must pay a nominal semester charge for services and public transit. Compared to other German towns, Cottbus has reasonably low living expenses, and the university provides housing help. This award, which is intended to help exceptional students further their PhD study, is extremely competitive.
