Dreaming of Life in the United States?
A brand-new, contentious pathway has been unveiled. The “US Gold Visa,” a program that gives people who are ready to contribute $1 million or more a quick route to permanent residency in the United States, was unveiled by former President Donald Trump.
“The Trump Gold Card is Here” is the tagline used to advertise the program on the official government website. Alongside the audacious pledge to “Unlock life in America,” the page showcases a dazzling golden Visa card featuring the Statue of Liberty, Trump’s photo, signature, and a bald eagle.
How the Gold Visa Works:
$1 Million Contribution: Individuals are eligible to make a direct “gift” to the U.S. Commerce Department.
Corporate Sponsorship: Businesses that contribute $2 million may submit candidates.
Extra Fees: A screening fee of $15,000 is necessary.
Limited Supply: The State Department and DHS will grant 80,000 Gold Visas.
By obtaining lawful permanent residency (Green Card status), successful applicants will be able to avoid the drawn-out and unpredictable procedure of traditional immigration.
Bigger Plans: The “Platinum Visa”
The Platinum Visa, which requires a $5 million payment, is an even higher category that the government is exploring. Holders of this visa could stay in the United States for up to 270 days without paying taxes on their overseas earnings. It has the potential to become one of the world’s most exclusive immigration programs, but congressional approval is still pending.
Effects on Foreign Professionals and Students
- This change in policy may change the future of U.S. immigration and scholarship opportunities for qualified workers and students.
- Within weeks, traditional Green Card routes like EB-1 and EB-2 might be discontinued in favor of the wealth-based Gold Visa model, which defines “exceptional ability” in terms of financial strength.
- Trump has also raised the cost of H-1B visas, which are used extensively by big tech companies like Google and Amazon to hire foreign workers, by $100,000.
