International students can study master’s or doctoral degrees at Hokkaido University’s Graduate School of Environmental Science with the prestigious, fully funded Hokkaido University MEXT Scholarship 2026. This scholarship, which is supported by the Japanese government, offers a monthly living allowance in addition to complete tuition and travel expenses. It is intended for exceptionally talented students who want to support environmental sustainability worldwide. The “Graduate Program for Environmental Conservation Leadership for Post-SDGs” will be open to selected candidates starting in October 2026. The goal of this program is to develop future leaders in sustainable development and environmental preservation. Eligibility Criteria :
- International students who have achieved exceptional academic success in graduate school and who are either new to Japan or currently live there are required.
- must be able to maintain a GPA of 2.30/3.00 or better over the scholarship duration, whether in their current or prior degree program.
One of the following language requirements must be fulfilled:
- Reach a CEFR level of B2 or above for English competence (based on accepted English language examinations).
- have fulfilled the prerequisites for admission to a Japanese graduate program by completing previous schooling (a bachelor’s or master’s program) where English was the main language of instruction.
