The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is now accepting nominations for the 2026 UNESCO International Literacy Prize. The program recognizes individuals and organizations with outstanding initiatives that promote literacy and education worldwide. Six winners will receive a medal, diploma, and an award of $30,000 each for their impactful literacy projects. The 2026 theme, “Promoting multilingual education: Literacy for mutual understanding and peace,” highlights the importance of multilingual learning in fostering inclusion, cultural respect, and peaceful communities. UNESCO encourages literacy experts and nominating organizations around the world to submit applications for projects that strengthen literacy through first-language-based and multilingual education approaches. The prize celebrates innovative programs that contribute to global understanding, social cohesion, and educational development.
Eligibility Criteria :
- All governments, non-governmental organizations, and people engaged in projects and programs aimed at advancing and enhancing literacy are welcome to apply.
