Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships 2025 | Study in Canada |

The prestigious Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships 2025, established for Georges P. Vanier, are now accepting applications from eligible candidates. 166 PhD scholarships, including those for overseas students, Canadian citizens, and permanent residents, will be given out to deserving candidates this year.

The fellowship, which offers $50,000 a year for three years, supports doctorate, MA/PhD, MD/PhD, or master’s leading to PhD programs. There is no interview requirement; selection is made solely on the basis of academic achievement, leadership potential, and research promise.

Candidates must have their research institution nominate them. With tuition and living expenses paid for by the Vanier CGS, students can concentrate on their studies at prestigious Canadian universities. Enhancing job chances, it also provides access to professional networks and guidance.

Eligibility criteria:

  • All requirements must be fulfilled by the nominee university and the applicant.
  • International students, Canadian citizens, and permanent residents of Canada are among the eligible applicants.
  • Candidates must be enrolled full-time in Canadian universities and be pursuing a PhD for the first time.
  • Under the Vanier CGS universities quota, only one university may nominate them.
  • It is required of applicants that they plan to pursue a PhD full-time during the summer semester or the academic year in which the results are announced.
  • Applications for joint professional degree programs (MD/PhD, DVM/PhD, JD/PhD) are accepted; however, funding will only cover the PhD portion of the program.
  • By May 1, 2025, applicants (those beginning a PhD program after a master’s degree) must have finished no more than 20 months of full-time doctoral study.
  • Candidates must have finished their full-time PhD studies by May 1, 2025, with a maximum of 32 months (for those enrolled in a joint graduate research program beginning immediately following a bachelor’s degree).
  • They are not eligible to earn any additional cash, scholarships, or awards for the PhD program.
  • A substantial research background or component in the research proposal is required of applicants.
  • Throughout their final two years of full-time study, they had to have earned a first-class average.
  • Candidates cannot be the recipients of any other CIHR, NSERC, or SSHRC fellowships or scholarships.
