International Major Entrance Scholarships (IMES) and the Outstanding International Student (OIS) Award are the two undergraduate scholarship programs that UBC offers to international students. Based on financing, the quantity and number of these scholarships change every year.
UBC recognizes the academic accomplishments of outstanding students worldwide by allocating more than $20 million yearly to support international undergraduate students through prizes, scholarships, and financial aid. The OIS Award is a one-time, merit-based entrance scholarship given to UBC students in recognition of their outstanding extracurricular and academic achievements.
Recipients of IMES are exceptional foreign applicants to UBC’s undergraduate programs. The quantity and value of these scholarships fluctuate every year depending on financing, and they are renewable for a maximum of three further years.
Eligibility Criteria:
- fresh at UBC, having come straight from high school or a post-secondary institution (college or university).
- a foreign student with a Canadian study permit (student visa) attending UBC. (IMES eligibility is impacted by changes in citizenship status.)
- Exhibit outstanding intellectual potential and academic accomplishment in addition to noteworthy extracurricular and community commitment.
- Not a candidate for an International Scholars grant determined by merit and need.
