WhatsApp Web Unveils Secret Chats

Published:

WhatsApp is reportedly adding a privacy feature to its web version. Lock chats with a secret code with this feature. WhatsApp for iOS and Android now offers Chat Lock, which hides selected chats with a code for further privacy.
WABetaInfo reports that WhatsApp Web’s latest version contains the new feature in development. A new feature will mimic mobile device capability. Users can secure and hide chats from the main chat list with a personalised secret code, which can be a word, phrase, or emoji and special characters.
This feature protects communications from unwanted access, especially on shared computers. WhatsApp Web’s encrypted discussions only appear after entering the passcode, like its mobile version. This protects private conversations in public.
The restricted chats will only be viewable while the app is active, like WhatsApp’s Chat Lock feature from November. The user must enter the secret code to unlock the chats when the app is closed and restarted. The hidden code feature can be disabled and the conversation lock function restored, including biometric authentication for added protection.
Beta testers will have to wait until the official launch to use WhatsApp’s site privacy feature. WhatsApp continues to empower users to set their privacy preferences and protect their discussions across platforms.
