Paris Olympics: Tamara Potocká Collapses After 200m Medley

After the Paris 2024 Olympics women’s 200m individual medley, 21-year-old Slovakian swimmer Tamara Potocká fell poolside. The incident occurred Friday morning following Potocká’s qualifying heat.

Potocká fell when she exited the water, requiring medical treatment. She received immediate first assistance and was taken away on a stretcher with an oxygen mask. She was conscious, according to medical staff.

Potocká collapsed, and six medical staff arrived within a minute. Whether she received CPR is unknown.

Lea Polonsky, an Israeli swimmer who participated two heats after Potocká, commented on the risks of swimming. “We push ourselves to the limit every day, and while incidents like this are always a possibility, it’s not something we focus on during the race,” said Polonsky.

Potocká debuts at the Olympics. She lives in Slovakia’s capital, Bratislava. Potocká finished eighth in her heat in 2 minutes, 14.20 seconds, missing the semi-finals.
