Hungary celebrated more than a millennium of freedom with a magnificent firework show on Saint Stephen’s Day in Budapest.

Though it started later than planned because of unexpected weather, Hungary celebrated nearly a millennium of independence with a magnificent Saint Stephen’s Day firework show in Budapest. Hundreds of thousands of people saw Europe’s greatest fireworks show, which lit up the skies over the Danube River.



The ceremony allegedly cost more than €38 million and included a combination of drones, fireworks, and narrated portions. However, meteorologists’ inaccurate forecast of rain prompted a minor delay, causing the concert to start an hour later than scheduled. A few participants bemoaned the weather and questioned the government’s spending choices, pointing out that the money might have gone towards bettering healthcare.



In a corresponding statement, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken commended Hungary’s national holiday while also reminding the NATO member nation of its obligations. Hungary has been a member of NATO for 25 years. On the basis of shared democratic ideals, security, and prosperity, he underlined the need of fortifying connections between the United States and Hungary.
