Eligibility Criteria:
- International Status: Come from a nation designated as MEXT as an international student.
- Be a citizen of a nation that has been recognized as MEXT.
- Be born on or after April 2, 1990, to meet the age requirement.
- Academic Achievement: On a 3.00 scale, have attained a GPA of at least 2.30.
Exclusions from Eligibility
- Military Status: Candidates cannot be on active duty at this time, nor may they be working for the military as civilians.
- Arrival in Japan: Candidates must be able to travel to Japan within the time frame that APU has set.
- Prior MEXT Scholarships: Unless they have more than three years of educational research experience since the prior MEXT scholarship’s final payment, applicants are not eligible to have previously won a MEXT scholarship.
- Concurrent MEXT Scholarships: Candidates who are already applying for another MEXT scholarship are not eligible to apply for this one.
- Other Scholarships: During their time at APU, applicants are not eligible to receive funding from any other scholarship program.
- Visa Status: During the duration of the scholarship, applicants must remain in Japan with a “student” visa.
- English Proficiency Test: Results from an English proficiency test administered on or after March 22, 2023, must be submitted by applicants.
Exemption for Proficiency in English:
An English Language Proficiency letter from an institution where English was the language of teaching is acceptable if the candidate has completed prior education there.
Benefits:
- Entrance Fee: The whole cost of entrance is covered.
- Tuition: All tuition costs are paid in full.
- Living Expenses: Monthly living expenses are allocated at 144,000 JPY.
- Travel: Round-trip economy class airfare is reimbursed for flights from the participant’s home country to APU.
