Tragedy in Nepal: 14 Dead After Indian Bus Plunges into River

Published:

A bus transporting Indian passengers crashed into the Marsyangdi River in Nepal, killing at least 14 people. The Pokhara-Kathmandu bus went off the road near Tanahun, fell down a steep hill, and landed on the riverside. It carried 40 people and was registered in Uttar Pradesh, India.

Nepal is sending a helicopter and medical teams to the distant accident location to rescue victims. Rescuers scour the bus wreckage for survivors in videos from the incident. The accident cause and victims’ names are still being investigated.

On X, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis revealed that some of the of the deceased were from his state and offered his sympathies. Uttar Pradesh and Nepal are coordinating to repatriate the bodies.

Indian tourists and pilgrims take the Pokhara-Kathmandu bus, although the steep terrain is dangerous. Road and vehicle upkeep issues cause frequent accidents in the region. After a landslide swept two buses into the Trishuli River in July, several were missing.

This tragic tragedy emphasises Nepal’s severe travel perils as rescue attempts continue.
