The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for severe rainfall and strong winds in numerous Indian states as the monsoon season turns dramatic. A deep depression over northwest Madhya Pradesh and east Rajasthan has raised concerns, with the IMD projecting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across MP, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Goa, and Maharashtra over the next few days.
The deep depression 70 km south-southeast of Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, is projected to track west-southwest, delivering a deluge to South Rajasthan and Gujarat, Saurashtra, Kutch, and parts of Pakistan by August 29. IMD also forecasts a low-pressure system over Bangladesh and Gangetic West Bengal to intensify and proceed towards north Odisha and Jharkhand.
The IMD warns of severe winds up to 60 kmph in southern Rajasthan and parts of Gujarat and rough seas in Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Pakistan. Fishermen should avoid the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, while small ships and offshore operations should be cautious.
The IMD predicts localized flooding, landslides, and waterlogging, especially in metropolitan areas. Farmers should drain and protect crops from flooding. Residents should be aware, avoid soggy areas, and follow traffic advice during heavy rains.
