Pakistan Champions Afghan Women’s Rights Amidst International Diplomacy

Published:

On Thursday, Pakistan reaffirmed its support for Afghan women’s rights, criticizing interim government limitations. According to the Foreign Office (FO), Pakistan is committed to gender equality and education as a fundamental Islamic ideal.

The FO spokeswoman responded to questions on Afghanistan’s new laws limiting women’s education: “Pakistan’s attitude on women’s and girls’ rights, especially education, is clear and consistent. Islam provides equal education, property rights, and a life without violence for women.”

It emphasizes Pakistan’s support for women’s rights worldwide and its compatibility with Islamic equality ideals. The spokesperson also discussed diplomatic topics, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Heads of Government Meeting next month; however, member state attendees were not named.

The official also stated that Pakistan and the US are having counter-terrorism conversations but did not disclose details.

In other regional updates, Pakistan expressed optimism about improving relations with Bangladesh to promote South Asian peace and development. Additionally, the FO acknowledged ongoing efforts to handle Pakistani captives abroad and IP gas pipeline negotiations with Iran.

Pakistan will host the 23rd SCO Meeting on September 12, 2024, and selected Faizan Mansoor as Tenth Review Meeting of the Convention on Nuclear Safety President, highlighting its international diplomacy.
