Apple’s Vision Pro Unveiled: A Leap into Spatial Computing

Apple’s first spatial computing product, Vision Pro, is dedicated to VR and AR. On February 2, Apple will release Vision Pro in the U.S., a mixed-reality headset with unique capabilities that outperform VR headsets.
The first micro-OLED displays with 23 million pixels provide 3,660 × 3,200 pixels per eye on this gadget. It uses the Apple M2 version with an 8-core CPU and 10-core GPU. Vision Pro has the R1 chip for superior standalone headset performance. The device’s 12 cameras and 5 sensors improve spatial data collection and processing.
Apple’s Vision Pro emphasizes natural and intuitive input via hands, eyes, and voice, unlike most VR headsets that employ controllers. Eye- and hand-tracking mechanisms detect focus and interpret motions as input.
Apple calls the Vision Pro a “spatial computer” to emphasize its objective of creating a standalone general-purpose computer that works seamlessly in the Apple environment. Users may see the actual world on opaque screens thanks to passthrough technology. Thus, spatial awareness gives users a unique experience that allows them to write emails in floating windows, project virtual screens, and fully immerse themselves.
Vision Pro pioneered micro-OLED displays, outperforming competitors in contrast, pixel density, and brightness. It runs visionOS, a compatible iPadOS OS. This means it supports many apps.
The VR/AR arena is heavy, yet Vision Pro weighs 600–650 grams. Although it lacks several apps at launch, it is a big step forward in spatial computing and sets a new standard for immersive experiences.
