900 Goals and Still Rising: Ronaldo: The Most Amazing Sporting Story Ever Told

Cristiano Ronaldo has set a new record, scoring 900 career goals and he has done this during the UEFA Nations League match between Portugal and Croatia. Ronaldo put the ball into the net in the 34th minute converting a cross from Nuno Mendes and making it 2-0 to Portugal in the Portugal 2-1 win. Overwhlemed by the joy the 39-year-old raced to the corner of the pitch with arms up, he then collapsed to the ground.

This goal was Ronaldo’s 131st goal for Portugal, which takes his tally in international football as a record holder in terms of goals scored in the football World. In total with the club, Ronaldo has scored 769 goals, which now makes him reach 900 goals in official games.

“It means a lot,” Ronaldo said after the match. It was about time that I have this kind of achievement. As much as I knew it would happen, the moment I kept on playing I was certain that I would get to that stage. “

This comes after the football star set new records in the past by becoming the first male player to score 800 goals in both club and international football. His nearest rival Lionel Messi has 842 goals to his name while Brazil legend Pele has 765 goals.

Ronaldo’s career started at Sporting CP, then Manchester United in 2003 in which he landed 145 goals. In nine years at Real Madrid he scored 450 goals in 438 appearances. Ronaldo has played for Juventus for a short while, Manchester United again, and is currently at the Saudi side of Al Nassr.

In the coming years, Ronaldo’s goal is even bigger than that of a world record. In a recent interview he said, ‘I want to score 1000 goals’. For me, it is difficult to find what could be a major challenge and the most important one is to strive for more.

Ronaldo boasts of five Ballon d’Or titles, numerous champions league records and his thirst to break new barriers again and again makes him a symbol of power on the football field.
