Iran’s Measured Response to Strikes: A Diplomatic Stand for Palestinian Rights

Published:

Iran has vowed to respond to Israel’s recent military strikes with a “well-measured” and “well-calculated” approach, emphasizing its commitment to defending its sovereignty. In a statement delivered during a joint briefing with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister underscored that Tehran would take appropriate action in response to the October 26 Israeli airstrikes targeting Iranian military sites.

The Israeli attack, which hit approximately 20 locations across Iran, was described by Tel Aviv as retaliation against Iranian and proxy forces. Araghchi declared that Iran reserves its right under international law, specifically the United Nations Charter, to defend itself against such aggression. He also criticized Israel’s actions, labelling them a violation of Iran’s sovereignty and a continuation of its “genocide” against Palestinians.

The escalating tensions come at a time of intensified regional instability, with both Iran and Pakistan stressing the need for a unified strategy. As Araghchi met with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, the two nations expressed a shared commitment to a peaceful resolution of the Palestinian issue. Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Both nations are also exploring ways to strengthen bilateral ties, focusing on trade, energy, and combating common threats like terrorism. As they prepare for the upcoming Organization of Islamic Cooperation summit, their unified stance signals a determined push to address Israel’s actions on the international stage and advocate for the self-determination of Palestine.

The situation remains tense, but the commitment to diplomacy and solidarity between Iran and Pakistan could offer a crucial diplomatic counterweight in the region.
