Over 30,000 Palestinians are died as a result of the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict.

The health ministry, which is managed by Hamas, released a heartbreaking report noting that since October 7th, the death toll from the continuing battle in Gaza has exceeded 30,000. This somber milestone highlights the devastating effects of the war as it represents 1.3% of the 2.3 million people living in the territory.

The health ministry reports that women and children account for the majority of those who have died. It is shocking to note that the numbers do not differentiate between fighters and civilians. There have been 81 more deaths in the last day alone, bringing the total to 30,035. The true figure, however, is probably higher given the people who haven’t made it to hospitals—thousands of them are trapped beneath the debris of buildings struck by Israeli bombings, among others.

The UN and other international organizations have quoted data from the Gaza Ministry of Health, which shows that over 70,000 Palestinians have been injured. The World Health Organization reports that, compared to previous conflicts, there is a startling rise in the number of civilian deaths, especially among women and children.

In response, the Israeli military claimed to have killed about 10,000 militants. Overcrowding in mortuaries, fighting near hospitals, and communication problems make it difficult to report precise numbers during this war.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Health in Gaza has drawn attention to “indirect mortality,” disclosing instances of individuals passing away from starvation and dehydration. These circumstances led to the deaths of six youngsters in northern Gaza, bringing attention to the larger humanitarian issue. The UN says that the lack of medical supplies and resources is making a quarter of Gaza’s population more vulnerable to starvation.

In order to provide a clearer picture of victims and reasons, investigations by the UN, rights organizations, and the Israeli military may be made possible as long as the combat continues and efforts to achieve a truce or stop the war are made. In the meantime, the growing humanitarian crisis in Gaza presents a critical dilemma for the international community.
