A Spanish tourist on a globe bicycle trip with her spouse was gang-raped in Dumka, Jharkhand. The pair stopped in Dumka, a tourist destination, on their way to Nepal from Bhagalpur.
The incident happened while the lady and her husband were camping near Hansdiha market in a remote region. According to her police complaint, a gang of local kids entered into the tent and assaulted her sexually and physically as she slept.
Three were arrested at the scene after police intervened, with reports indicating seven to eight juveniles were involved. The victim was treated at Saraiyahat Community Health Centre after the horrific incident. The case is under investigated.
The victim is undergoing extensive medical tests at Phulo Jhano Medical College Hospital in Dumka. Jhajhand regional minister Mithilesh Kumar Thakur criticized the event and promised punishment, saying, “The police are prosecuting this. We’ll punish the guilty.”
The Spanish embassy in India has contacted local authorities and sent staff to help and gather information. The horrific tragedy underscores the necessity to protect women when traveling and protect visitors in famous areas.
