Published:

On Monday, March 11, 2024, Pakistan’s 14th president, Asif Ali Zardari, was honored with a royal ceremony in Islamabad’s Aiwan-e-Sadr. Distinguished military contingents meticulously inspected the guard of honor, the highlight of the ceremony.

President Zardari came for the ceremony in a horse-drawn buggy, signifying the nation’s rich legacy. He met with President House officials and personnel, as is traditional for freshly elected and departed presidents. After his term, former president Arif Alvi received a guard of honor.

On the Sunday before, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa administered the oath of office to President Zardari. Zardari won the election with 411 votes from parliament and all four-provincial assembly. Allied parties endorsed the president, whereas Mahmood Khan Achakzai, supported by the PTI-backed Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), received 181 votes.

The big celebration highlighted Pakistan’s democratic handover of power. President Zardari’s engagement with the military and guard of honor ceremony symbolized the nation’s democratic principles and leadership continuity. This historic ceremony combined history, convention, and the promise of a new chapter under President Zardari.
