Massive New York Protest Demands Gaza Ceasefire

From the UN to AIPAC’s New York office, thousands marched in support of Palestine. The Gaza war demonstrators strongly opposed AIPAC’s role in impeding peace talks.
Demonstrators held banners reading “AIPAC funds genocide,” calling for Palestine’s liberation and an end to the conflict. The audience echoed the urgent ceasefire request.
Antiwar group Jewish Voice for Peace claimed the arrest of 18 Jewish activists who shut down Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand’s offices with a protest.
The protest coincided with the US veto of a UN Security Council draft resolution to end the Gaza war. The move, perceived as an impediment to world peace, raised tensions. Arab nations, lead by Algeria, initiated the resolution vote, expecting US opposition, as Israel friend.
The US voted against the proposed resolution alone; the UK abstained. The remaining 13 UN Security Council members approved the resolution, calling for an end to the violence that has killed over 29,000 Palestinians and displaced over 80% of the population.
Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the US ambassador to the UN, denied that the veto was meant to cover up an Israeli ground invasion on Rafah, where many refugees live. Protesters in New York demand an immediate ceasefire and an end to Gaza’s agony as the worldwide plea for peace resonates.
