Volkswagen Recalls Over 261,000 Cars in the US Due to Fire Risk

Published:

Volkswagen has recalled 261,000 US cars owing to fuel leaks that might start fires. VW Golf and GTI cars from 2015 to 2020 are included in the Audi A3 recall. Front-wheel-drive Golf Sportwagens and VW Jettas from 2015 to 2019 and 2019 to 2020 are included.

According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration documents released Wednesday, a malfunctioning pump seal might cause fuel leaking from a charcoal canister in the vehicle’s emissions system, increasing the risk of fire.
Dealers will repair or replace the fuel pump system in the fuel tank. Vehicle owners affected by the problem will not be charged. Volkswagen began notifying on April 12.

These automobile owners get a second reminder with every recall. VW recalled 110,000 vehicles in 2016 for a similar issue. However, the company found that the first recall replacement pumps also failed.
U.S. safety inspectors investigated 79 vehicle owner fuel leak allegations, triggering the recall. Volkswagen reports 1410 warranty cases from May 2016 to December 2021. Interestingly, this condition did not create any fires.
Automakers work together to address safety issues quickly, as shown by tomorrow’s recall. The company’s fire-related incident elimination initiatives aim to protect car owners.
