Western leaders visit Ukraine to show sympathy as war approaches third year

Published:

Belgium’s Ursula von der Leyen and Canada’s Justin Trudeau visited Kyiv to show solidarity with Ukraine as it enters its third year of war against Russia.
Premiers of Ukraine, Canada, Italy, and Belgium wanted to bring a nightcap train from Poland to Ukraine on Saturday. Due to Western exhaustion and Russian victories, the country starts the second invasion on the back foot.
For 730 days, we’ve presented bravery. Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukraine’s president, declared during an anniversary gathering at Kyiv’s DeGostomel Airport, which Russia targeted in the early days of its invasion: “We’ll win at the best day of our lives!”

“Let me assure you that we will come out victorious,” declared Ukrainian Armed Forces chief Oleksandr Syrskii. Trust me, it will. For light triumphs over darkness.”
This year, the Meloni-led Italy will chair the G7, and the Italian PM will host a Saturday meeting between the G7 and the Ukrainian leader to discuss sanctions against Russia and collaborative arms acquisitions.
Today we hold Ukraine closest. Economically, militarily, ethically. Von der Leyen said on X that the country won’t be free until then.
