Palestinian Mother Experiences Israeli Detention Horrors

Published:

After being kidnapped from Gaza, a Palestinian mother of three, Amina, describes her terrifying time in Israeli prison. She suffered sexual assault, beatings, hunger deprivation, and psychological torture throughout her 40-day detention. After Israeli forces attacked and stripped males and sent ladies south, Amina was forced to leave a Gaza school.

Amina was humiliated by a female officer while soldiers searched her. She heard the terrifying words, “Welcome to Israel.” and was transported somewhere unknown. Detention facilities mistreated, strip-searched, and substandardly housed Amina and other women. Diabetes and chronic blood pressure patient Amina had little medical treatment and was hungry and thirsty.

Soldiers demanded family information and threatened her children. Amina was questioned while confined to a chair, kicked, and intimidated. The captives were abused and moved between institutions, and Amina’s diabetes worsened without medicine.

After 32 days in prison and 42 days in custody, Amina was freed. However, the return journey was traumatic as troops forced her to undress in front of several Palestinian women, catching the experience on tape. After release, her money and things were taken, leaving her just earrings.

Amina’s story highlights Palestinian captives’ horrific circumstances, including sexual assault. UN experts called for accountability for such violations. Amina’s statement raises awareness of Palestinians’ struggles during and after the conflict, emphasizing the need to redress human rights violations.
