Despite Ukrainian Resistance, Erdogan Offers Peace Summit.
Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has offered to host Ukraine-Russia peace talks to settle the crisis. In a visit, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who refuses to negotiate with Russia, made the offer.
President Erdogan hoped Russia would accept the peace conference offer, underscoring Turkey’s commitment to balanced relations with Ukraine and Russia. After visiting Zelenskyy, Erdogan told a press conference in Istanbul, “We are also ready to host a peace summit in which Russia will also be included.”
Zelenskyy has suggested that Russia must lead peace discussions to resolve the war. He repeated a 10-point peace proposal that included food security, Ukraine’s territorial integrity, Russian force withdrawal, prisoner release, an aggression responsibility tribunal, and security assurances.
The Ukrainian leader is hopeful that the planned peace meeting in Switzerland later this year would discuss restoring all Ukrainian ports, including Mykolaiv in southern Ukraine.
The Turkish government and firms signed defense projects with Zelenskyy during his visit. Collaboration to improve bilateral ties included trade facilitation and business obstacle elimination.
Erdogan stressed the importance of Black Sea maritime corridor stability for Ukraine’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence.
President Zelenskyy maintains his call for international ammunition and weapons as Russian soldiers advance on Ukraine. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba highlighted the need for an unlimited and timely arms supply to defend Ukraine against Russian aggression at a Vilnius summit.
China dispatched a special representative for Eurasian affairs to Kyiv to discuss the Ukraine situation with stakeholders. Turkey’s mediation attempts and peace summit plan demonstrate the intricacy of diplomatic maneuvering during the crisis.
