Three Palestinians Arrested for Alleged Terrorist Conspiracy near Rome

Italian police arrested three people for preparing a terrorist attack in an undisclosed place. Criminal conspiracy for terrorism or subversion of democracy was brought against the L’Aquila defendants, 75 miles from Rome.

Police think the trio formed a cell linked to the Al Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, a Palestinian Fatah-affiliated military alliance. Al Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades, a terrorist organization recognized by Israel, the EU, and the US, has a controversial past.


Criminal charges can result in 15-year prison sentences. Police said the accused planned suicide strikes on civilian and military targets overseas and participated in proselytism and propaganda.

One of the detainees is sought by Israel, and an Italian court is considering extradition. Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi called the group “three dangerous terrorists.” applauding the arrest. Piantedosi stressed the country’s continued fight against extremism and radicalization to protect its citizens.

This recent event raises worldwide worries about terrorism and emphasizes the need for international collaboration to combat extremism. Italian authorities remain vigilant against terrorism and threats to democratic order and public safety.
