The rise of coronary artery disease (CAD) worldwide worries many of us. The leading cardiologist, Major General (R) Azhar Mehmood Kayani, urged the public to prioritize heart health by changing their lifestyle. Dr. Kayani notes that cardio diseases are rising worldwide, including in Pakistan, and that healthy lifestyles, including regular exercise, heart checks, and weight control, minimize the risk of heart-related mortality.
Dr. Kayani stresses heart disease education and prevention. Laziness and a lack of outdoor activity are the biggest risk factors for health conditions; thus, people should adopt a healthy lifestyle. Regular exercise is a recognized protection against cardiac problems, and preventative health choices are beneficial.
The cardiologist underlines that diabetes, hypertension, smoking, and inactivity cause most heart attacks. In this scenario, a genetic predisposition increases cardiovascular disease risk, especially when combined with smoking, obesity, inactivity, or a poor diet (heavy in fast and greasy meals). Dr. Kayani explains, “Obesity is a mother of almost all diseases,” referring to hypertension, diabetes, and cardiovascular issues. Dr. Kayani calls for a global response to the immediate threat of cardiovascular diseases in every social class and stresses the importance of cardiac health. Ironically, cardiovascular problems are most prevalent in poor countries with poor healthcare.
The cardiologist’s appeal serves as a timely warning for people worldwide to see heart health as an important need. This may be improved by positive lifestyle changes, with the understanding that prevention is the best treatment for rising cardiac fatalities.
