Two killed at Russian border by Ukrainian missile
On Thursday, local officials reported two deaths and 12 injuries from a Ukrainian rocket strike on Russia’s Belgorod border. Kyiv wants to unnerve Moscow before Russia’s presidential elections with the attack and claimed cross-border incursions.
Moscow says its forces stopped the invasions and killed Ukrainian soldiers, but these allegations are unverifiable. Due to both sides’ deception and propaganda, cross-border clashes have been rare since the war began.
Due to a crackdown on opposition, Vladimir Putin is anticipated to win re-election at the same time as the assaults. Putin called the elections a patriotic obligation despite perceived outside threats, notably the three-year Ukraine crisis.
Russians should boycott from the election to protest Putin’s dictatorship, according to exiled opposition figures. Given his influence over media and opposition voices, Putin’s triumph seems certain.
Russia’s economy and military have grown despite Western sanctions and war failures. Experts are concerned about the extended conflict and its impact on Ukraine, especially because NATO has warned of arms delays to Kyiv.
Analysts say the following months will decide the fate of the conflict due to Russia’s momentum, meaning Ukrainian troops need immediate reinforcement.
