For Ph.D. holders worldwide, the Matsumae International Foundation Fellowship 2025 in Japan provides fully supported opportunities for research and global issue collaboration. By having access to excellent materials and a wide-ranging intellectual network, people can broaden their knowledge and help solve problems in their domains. Dr. Matsumae established the fellowship in 1979 with the goal of bridging cultural gaps and advancing academic advancement in Japan. A six-month program, running from April 2025 to March 2026, will cover study trips, travel, and living expenses for ten selected outstanding scholars. All applicants are encouraged to apply for this inclusive scholarship in order to learn more about Japanese culture and make significant contributions to research.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • The Matsumae International Foundation offers a Japanese fellowship that is open to non-Japanese people.
  • Candidates for the Matsumae International Foundation Fellowship program must be Ph.D. holders.
  • Candidates must have been born in 1979 or after in order to be eligible to apply, since they must be 45 years of age or younger at that time.
  • Applicants need to get an admission letter from a Japanese host institution before applying.
  • It is required to be proficient in either Japanese or English to be eligible for the Matsumae fellowship.
  • Candidates shouldn’t have lived or worked in Japan in the past.
  • Upon completion of the fellowship, candidates must be employed in their home country and make a positive contribution to the development of that nation.
  • Applicants doing research in engineering, medicine, and the natural sciences are given preference.

Benefits:

  • The Matsumae International Foundation will provide a monthly stipend of JPY 220,000 to cover living and research expenses during their stay in Japan.
  • This stipend, along with an Arrival Fund of JPY 120,000, will help with the initial cost of living in Japan.
  • The 2025 fellowship covers round-trip airfare to and from Japan in economy class.
  • Fellows will also receive medical treatment and death benefits from their travel insurance.
  • Throughout their fellowship, participants will have the chance to go on a variety of study excursions throughout Japan.
