Medical Research Foundation Launchpad Grants in Mental Health 2024

Funded research focuses on underserved areas including trauma-related diseases and suicide prevention in an effort to increase our understanding of and ability to treat mental health issues. Launchpad Grants encourage interdisciplinary relationships by supporting pilot projects and teamwork to create successful submissions for larger financing. Donors such as Catherine Mary Evans fund these funds, which are essential to the advancement of mental health research.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Eligibility: Available to clinical academics and researchers in the UK who work at qualifying institutions.
  • Requirements: Doctorates in relevant fields must be held by applicants, and research must be done at accredited universities. Outside academic partnerships are allowed as long as they support the objectives of the funding call.
  • The focus is on researchers who are in the middle of their careers and have a lot of postdoctoral experience.
  • Funding Terms: The obligations of Principal Investigators and Lead Research Organizations shall be outlined in the regular terms and conditions of the Medical Research Foundation, which will apply to all awards.
  • Extra Requirements: The Foundation may add particular requirements that are indicative of financing needs. Acceptance of an award indicates acceptance of all terms, which are subject to change at the Foundation’s discretion.

Regions Eligible: Researchers and clinical academics with a UK basis who are affiliated with UK Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), Research Council research institutes, hospitals, and other independent research groups are eligible for this opportunity.

  • Funding Cap: (modified for part-time roles) Applicants may request up to £100,000 to fund their research for a maximum of two years.
  • Total Funding Pool: £500,000 will be made available for this competition in total.
  • Career Progression Support: The Foundation provides access to special funding possibilities designated for MRC and Foundation-funded researchers in an effort to support academics’ career advancement in addition to supporting outstanding research.
