AERC 2024/2025 Ph.D. Scholarships for Francophone and Anglophone African Nations

With the goal of advancing economic policy research and teaching throughout Africa, the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) was established in 1988. Functioning as a charity, it highlights the significance of proficient local economists for enduring development in sub-Saharan Africa. AERC supports policy research and graduate education with an emphasis on improving economic policy capacity for Francophone and Anglophone African countries.

With great pleasure, AERC announces that Ph.D. scholarships are now available for the 2024–2025 academic year. Applicants from Francophone and Anglophone sub-Saharan African nations who have been accepted into any of the academic institutions involved in the AERC Collaborative PhD Programme (CPP) in Economics are eligible to apply for these scholarships.

The Ph.D. scholarships for the 2024/2025 academic year are available to candidates who have been accepted into the Economics degree programs offered by the universities participating in the AERC Collaborative PhD Programme (CPP).

  • University of Benin, Nigeria
  • Félix Houphouet-Boigny University, Côte d’Ivoire
  • University Cheikh Anta Diop in Dakar, Senegal
  • University of Ibadan, Nigeria
  • University of Nairobi, Kenya
  • University of Yaoundé II, Cameroon
  • University of Pretoria
  • University of Witwatersrand, South Africa

Eligibility Criteria:

  • It is necessary to be admitted to one of the designated CPP universities.
  • It is required to have at least a Second Class Honours (Upper Division) in Economics, Agricultural Economics, or a similar discipline from an accredited university.
  • It is required to hold a Master’s degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, or comparable subjects from an approved university, which includes coursework and a thesis component.
  • It is beneficial to have at least one pertinent article in a peer-reviewed journal.
  • It is also beneficial to show that one is involved in public sector training, research, and/or economic management.
  • We especially encourage women and people from fragile and post-conflict areas to apply.
