Applications are open for the Mastercard Scholarship at Gondar University for eligible African students, sponsored by the Mastercard Foundation. The fully funded scholarship covers tuition, housing, living expenses, a laptop, airfare, and campus meals. This article aims to clarify the scholarship program details, including eligibility criteria, benefits, duration, and application process. Since 2018-19, the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship at Gondar has committed to awarding 160 graduate scholarships over eight years. Targeting academically gifted but financially disadvantaged students from five East African countries—Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea, Djibouti, and South Sudan—the program seeks to equip participants with essential leadership and transformative skills to positively impact socioeconomic development. Scholars will receive comprehensive academic and non-academic support throughout their time at the University of Gondar.
Eligibility Criteria:
- possess a Bachelor’s degree from an approved university, earned within the last five years, in a field related to their intended graduate program, with English serving as the language of instruction.
- attained, upon graduation, a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.
- possess citizenship or be permanent residents of Djibouti, Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea, or South Sudan, having lived in each nation for a minimum of five years at the time of application.
- It is urged that candidates with disabilities apply.
- We especially encourage female students who are having financial difficulties funding their graduate studies to apply.
