The Jalón Ángel Photographic Archive, under the direction of San Jorge University (San Valero Group), is the host of the 10th Jalón Ángel International Photography Prize.
Jalón Ángel, real name Ángel Hilario García de Jalón Hueto (1898–1976), had a successful 50-year career as a notable Spanish portrait photographer. Trained in Logroño, he spent the early 1900s honing his craft in Lyon and Paris before moving to Zaragoza in 1926. Acclaimed for his varied landscape and intimate studio portraiture, he also supported humanitarian issues, having given the San Valero Professional School (now a part of the San Valero Group) funding in 1953.
The annual prize honors Jalón Ángel’s legacy in two categories: Travel and Traditions, which highlights his originality and devotion, and Portrait, which reflects his national acclaim. This year, a brand-new division highlights cultural heritage.
