The Goi Peace International Essay Contest is currently accepting submissions. The goal of this yearly competition is to accomplish the SDGs (ESD for 2030) as part of UNESCO’s Education for Sustainable Development program. It aims to use youth creativity and energy to advance sustainable development and peace. This fully financed competition encourages society to consider making a difference and learn from the bright brains of the future.
Young authors are invited to participate if they wish to use their writing to alter society. Participants in the Goi Peace International Essay Contest 2024 get the chance to share their thoughts with a global audience. The winners will get financial awards and recognition on a global scale. Young people from all over the world are welcome to enter this free online competition.
This year’s competition theme is “My Experience of Overcoming Conflict,” which focuses on handling disagreements and the lessons discovered. The Goi Peace Foundation will provide each participant a complimentary certificate. Eligibility Criteria:
- On June 15, 2024, applicants must be no older than 25. They may apply under any of the following categories:
- Children’s category (ages up to 14)
- Category of youth (15–25 years old)
- Essays must be no more than 700 words in English or French, or 1600 characters in Japanese.
- Translations into English, French, or Japanese must accompany essays written in other languages for acceptance.
- Essays must begin on the first page with the applicant’s name and the essay title (name and title do not count against the word limit).
- No particular formatting guidelines apply (font style, size, line spacing, etc.).
- Essays are to be turned in in PDF or MS Word (DOC/DOCX) format.
- Essays have to be sent electronically via the registration website.
- To submit a collection of writings from their class or group, educators and youth directors need to create a ‘account for school/organisation entrant.’
- A single essay may be submitted by each applicant.
- Essays must be written by a single author; joint authors will not be approved.
- Original essays must not have been published; submissions with copied text will not be accepted.
Benefits:
The prizes for the youth and children’s categories will be given out as follows:
First Prize: A present for one participant, a certificate, and 100,000 Yen (about $660 as of February 2024).
Second Prize: Gift for three participants, a certificate, and 50,000 Yen (about $330 as of February 2024).
Third Prize: A gift and certificate for five participants.
Award and present for 25 participants for Honourable Mention.
Take note:
The first through third-place winners will get invitations to an online Winners Gathering.
If appropriate, additional prizes could be given out, including the Best School Award (School Incentive Award).
The official website will declare the winners of each prize on October 31, 2024 (Japan time). In January 2025, winners will get presents and certificates in the mail.
