Under this program, highly skilled individuals can do research and receive technical training thanks to Area Studies’ fellowship for PhD students. Doctoral candidates and recent PhD researchers from all across the world are eligible for Harvard University’s fully financed international scholarship. There will be five to six scholars chosen for the 2025 Harvard Academy Scholars Program.
Candidates must be outstanding in the social sciences, have understanding of nations outside of the US and/or Canada, and have a solid academic research plan that addresses local, comparative, or international concerns. Scholars with promising academic careers and fluency in foreign languages, history, or culture are given preference. The program’s goal is to create a varied community of academics with a range of backgrounds, viewpoints, and approaches.
This competitive fellowship offers funds for research as well as an annual stipend. Scholars shall be chosen by Harvard University on the basis of merit, independent of gender, country, ethnicity, or colour. The scholarship supports talented and deserving students to further their education at some of the most esteemed universities in the world. With almost 80 libraries, Harvard’s vast library system is a valuable resource for researchers.

Eligibility criteria:
- Candidates may come from anywhere in the world.
- Those who have just completed or are about to complete a PhD or comparable doctorate degree (including SJD and DPhil) in the social sciences are eligible to apply for the Harvard Academy Scholars degree.
- Candidates need to have promising careers.
- Those with an understanding of foreign languages, foreign history, and foreign cultures are given preference in the program.
- The only people who qualify are academics who study law and social sciences.
- The PhD must be completed by August 1, 2025, which is two years after the start date. The PhD must have been finished after July 31, 2023, in order to be considered for the September 20, 2024 deadline.
- For the start date of August 1, 2025, PhD students who are almost finished with their dissertations must turn in degree conferral paperwork from their university registrar’s office by June 30, 2025.
- A face-to-face interview is required of the finalists in December 2024. Finalists conducting interviews in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, will receive hotel accommodations and travel reimbursements from the Harvard Academy.
