In the summer of 2024, the Mandela Washington Fellowship will bring up to seven hundred young leaders to the United States. Fellows are fully sponsored to the United States, including airfare, lodging, and meals, as part of an extensive executive-style program that aims to provide them with the knowledge and abilities to take on leadership roles in their communities and industries.

With the purpose of promoting cooperation between Fellows and American citizens to advance economic growth and prosperity, bolster democratic governance, and improve peace and security throughout Africa and the United States, this Fellowship brings up-and-coming leaders to the United States for academic study and leadership development.

Eligibility Criteria:
- are 25 to 35 years old by the application deadline, while outstanding candidates from the age range of 21 to 24 will also be taken into consideration.
- possess a strong command of the English language, both in writing and speaking (deaf applicants will receive further assistance).
- No applicant will be subjected to discrimination on the basis of socioeconomic status, gender, race, color, sexual orientation, disability, or gender identity.
- Academics and/or professionals with experience working in Africa or on sub-Saharan African issues, as well as individuals with knowledge of one or more of the Fellowship’s theme areas—business, civic engagement, or public management—are the ideal readers.
- Employees of the US government and Fellowship alumni are qualified.
