In Dramatic Final, Spain Beats England 2-1 at Euro 2024
Spain won its fourth European Championship by defeating England 2-1 in a thrilling Euro 2024 final in Berlin. Spain took the lead early in the second half when Nico Williams scored after 17-year-old wonder Lamine Yamal passed perfectly.
A magnificent long-range shot by Cole Palmer equalized England midway through the second half. With five minutes left in regulation, Mikel Oyarzabal scored on a Marc Cucurella pass, sparking euphoria among Spanish fans.
This is Spain’s fourth Euro title, following 1964, 2008, and 2012. England suffered another sad setback after losing to Italy in the Euro 2020 final.
The game started carefully with both sides probing each other without scoring. Spain dominated possession but couldn’t break England’s defense. Spanish goalkeeper Unai Simón saved Phil Foden’s close-range attempt before halftime, England’s first serious chance.
After crucial player Rodri was injured at halftime, Spain immediately adjusted. Williams’ early second-half goal increased Spain’s confidence, and they pressed England. England equalized through Palmer’s superb strike, briefly regaining control.
Spain rallied and tried to win. In the last minutes, Cucurella’s exquisite cross found Oyarzabal, who calmly finished to seal Spain’s triumph. Spain’s defense held off England’s late charge.
Yamal, who turned 17 the day before the final, was chosen young player of the tournament! Rodri was named player of the tournament. He showed his talent throughout the tournament, including a record-breaking goal in the quarterfinal.
