Spain Wins Euro 2024: Parade and Meeting with the King
Spain thanked their Euro 2024 win on Monday with an open-top bus victory celebration through Madrid after meeting with the Spanish king and president. The festivities came after Spain saw off England 2-1 in the final when Mikel Oyarzabal netted the decisive header in the 90 th minute after Cole Palmer had cancelled out Nico Williams ‘ early strike.
This triumph makes Spain the fourth European Champion, which won in 1964, 2008, and 2012 of the total. The team landed in Madrid Barajas airport on Monday and then headed to Zarzuela palace to be with King Felipe VI who came to celebrate with then on the pitch in Berlin. Spain’s path to the title was rather unblemished having won all their seven games, defeating Germany on the way, Italy and France who were considered favourites for the cup. In the group stage they eliminated Croatia 4-0, Italy 2-1 and Albania 3-0 They further thrashed Georgia 4-1 in the round 16, Germany 2-1 in the quarter final after the extra time and finally defeated France 2-1 in semi-final.
Rodri, the mid-fielder from the winning team was awarded the trophy for the player of the tournament while Lamine Yamal of the winger position received the best young player.
The festivities emphasized that Spain had played above its rank and the pride that the country had in its team.
