Moscow to Pay Record Bonuses to Increase Troops for Ukraine Fight

Moscow power brokers are paying a record $22,000 signing bonus to military recruits to fight in Ukraine. This is coming at a time President Vladimir Putin is having a hard time recruiting soldiers for Russia’s long war, which is now in its third year.

The incentive was declared by Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin who said that new recruits could be paid up to $59,600 in their first year of serving. Also, if a soldier is injured, they may be eligible for between $5,690 and $11,390; survivors of deceased soldiers can get $34,150.

The move shows the extent to which Russia needs troops since the death toll persists to rise. Some calculations show that more than 70 thousand Russian troops died and were injured in May-June, including in the Kharkov area. Some sources show that Russia has lost 87% of its combat-ready ground forces and 66% of its tanks since February this year.

The Kremlin has been rather active in its attempts to strengthen the military. Putin has called for raising the number of troops to over 2 million and has already initiated increasing the number to 170000. 2 million, including 1. 32 million active-duty personnel. This expansion comes after a “partial mobilization” in September 2022, which sparked demonstrations and the emigration of young males.

While stopping the mobilization in November 2022 with the goal set at 300,000, Russia actively searches for more soldiers, including foreigners. It is believed that about 15,000 Nepalis have been recruited along with the Afghan, Indian, Congolese and Egyptian soldiers most of them have suffered a lot.

The following is that, as the war continues, the Russian Federation continues to actively strengthen its military presence, which speaks about the duration and intensity of the war in Ukraine.
