The University of Western Cape is accepting applications for the 2025 Mastercard Foundation Scholarship (UWC). This scholarship offers completely supported undergraduate and master’s degrees at UWC to academically gifted young people from South Africa and throughout Africa.
Established in 2012, the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program seeks to cultivate future transformative leaders by providing gifted, community-minded young Africans with the opportunity to attend UWC for higher education. The initiative focuses on young women, those with disabilities, refugees, and youth who have been forcibly displaced. It also aims to assist those who are hampered by social and economic constraints.
The disciplines of study for which scholarships are offered are specified, so candidates must select one of the possibilities provided. The program demands an outstanding academic record and is very competitive.

Eligibility Criteria:
Undergraduate Applicants:
- must be an African, either from South Africa or another country.
- At the time of application, you must be 26 years of age or younger.
- must fulfil the minimal prerequisites for admission to the University of Western Cape.
- A request for academic admission for 2025 must have been made.
- must be prepared to begin undergraduate studies full-time in January 2025.
- must offer evidence that their ability to pursue higher education is impeded by social and economic impediments.
Postgraduate Applicants:
- must be an African, either from South Africa or another country.
- At the time of application, you have to be 30 years of age or younger.
- must fulfil the minimal prerequisites for admission to the University of Western Cape.
- A request for academic admission for 2025 must have been made.
- must be prepared to begin a master’s program full-time in January 2025.
- must offer evidence that their ability to pursue higher education is impeded by social and economic impediments.
- Applications for the UWC scholarship 2025 are not accepted from those pursuing a second master’s degree.
