International students can study in Switzerland through the Biozentrum PhD Fellowships Program offered by the University of Basel. Young scholars with extraordinary potential and enthusiasm are invited to apply for this program’s coveted PhD fellowships from all around the world. The Biozentrum PhD Fellowships are awarded through a highly competitive process, which selects up to 10 candidates annually, in contrast to other doctoral programs.
These fellowships, which are supported by the University of Basel and the Werner Siemens Foundation, are intended to aid exceptional graduate students in the life sciences. Benefits include financial support, direct entry to the PhD program, the chance to choose a research group through rotations, and support for attending courses and scientific meetings. The Biozentrum will provide at least two lab rotations for the chosen fellows to conduct research in, each lasting at least two months. Fellows can select their research group for their PhD thesis after completing rotations and receiving group leaders’ approval. The PhD is funded for the full period of the fellowship.
Eligibility Criteria:
- The Basel Fellowships are open to applicants from all over the world.
- Candidates need to have a passion for the life sciences.
- It is necessary to have a foundation in computer science, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and/or biological or biomedical sciences.
- In order to be admitted into the University of Basel’s PhD program, candidates must possess or anticipate obtaining a university degree, usually at the Master’s (MSc or equivalent) level.
- Highly qualified individuals having bachelor’s degrees from non-Bologna systems may be given priority for the University of Basel’s accelerated Master’s program in exchange for their fellowship.
