From Rails to Reptiles: China and Vietnam Forge Stronger Ties with 14 Landmark Deals

China and Vietnam recently signed 14 transformative agreements, from railway connectivity to crocodile exports, boosting political and commercial relations. Lam, Vietnam’s new leader, visited Beijing for the first time, highlighting the importance of this partnership.

President Xi Jinping reiterated Vietnam’s primacy in China’s neighborhood diplomacy during the meeting. The two presidents addressed boosting cross-border trains and transit infrastructure. Key projects include connecting China’s Shenzhen to Vietnam’s Haiphong port to improve trade and investment.

Financial cooperation between central banks included local currency settlements and cross-border payment systems. To support Vietnam’s agriculture, Xi Jinping promised to expand imports of coconuts, durians, and even crocodiles.

This encounter shows these communist-ruled neighbors’ growing relations and commitment to collaboration. As China and the US trade disputes persist, this relationship might help Vietnam become a bigger global trade participant. Xi and Lam strengthened their bond over tea, laying the groundwork for strong cooperation.
