The Portuguese fullback Joao Cancelo has signed with Al Hilal of the Saudi Pro League, leaving Manchester City. Approximately €25 million (or more than £21 million) is the rumored transfer fee.
Since the beginning of the 2022–23 season, Cancelo sat out for Manchester City, who were willing to trade him for the right price. His next stop on the football circuit will be in the Middle East.
Cancelo had several unforgettable experiences while playing for Manchester City and was grateful to the club when he left. “I would like to wish everyone at City continued success in the future,” said Cancelo. There were a lot of memorable times for me at this fantastic club. For all that has happened during my stay at City, I am grateful to my teammates, coaches, and the entire staff.
Cancelo spent the season on loan with Barcelona, where he appeared in 32 La Liga games and 10 Champions League contests. Barcelona wanted to keep Cancelo permanently, but they and Manchester City couldn’t come to an agreement. Cancelo had previously played 21 times in all competitions during his loan spell with Bayern Munich during the second part of the 2022–23 season.
Cancelo joins other prominent players who have just relocated to the region, bringing their expertise and skills to the Saudi Pro League with their transfer to Al Hilal. This move signifies a new phase in his career.
The contract of the 30-year-old City player was almost up to its expiration date.
