Toyota Motor Corporation has halted operations at all domestic factories as Typhoon Shanshan approaches Japan with strong winds and rain. A violent typhoon has forced 800,000 residents of Kagoshima, Aichi, and Shizuoka prefectures to evacuate. It is predicted to cause major disruptions.
As Typhoon Shanshan, rated “very strong,” approached the southwest, Japan issued an emergency alert on August 28, 2024. The typhoon threatens life and infrastructure with winds up to 50 m/s and gusts up to 70 m/s (252 km/h or 157 mph).
To protect passengers and staff, airlines and rail operators have cancelled services ahead of the storm. As the typhoon develops, extensive cancellations will affect travel in the following days.
Toyota halted operations to protect its workers and facilities. The suspension hits the automaker at a crucial time, showing how natural disasters may disrupt supply lines and production.
Japanese emergency services and local officials are on high alert for Typhoon Shanshan, working to protect residents and reduce its devastation. Updates are expected as the typhoon hits shore.
