ISIL claimed responsibility for a Kabul suicide attack that killed six. The Taliban’s prosecution department was targeted in Monday’s strike in Kabul’s Qala-e-Bakhtiar neighborhood.
ISIL claimed that a member detonated an explosive vest among government personnel in a Telegram post. The bomber struck after work, targeting those leaving work. Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran said the explosion injured thirteen others.
ISIL justified the bombing as retaliation for “Muslims held in Taliban prisons.” The organization claimed “more than 45” deaths; however, local officials have not confirmed this.
Since the Taliban took over Afghanistan in 2021, violence has diminished, but ISIL’s affiliate in Khorasan Province (ISKP) remains a threat. Bombings and shootings continue to target civilians, foreigners, and Taliban officials.
The bombing emphasizes Afghanistan’s security issues and ISIL’s threat. As the government struggles with these attacks, the international community monitors the situation to stabilize the region and combat terrorism.
