Historic Turnaround: Turkiye and Egypt Sign 17 Deals in Landmark Diplomatic Visit

Published:

Turkiye and Egypt inked 17 agreements during Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s inaugural visit to Ankara, marking a dramatic improvement in relations. After a decade of tension, this visit shows renewed commitment to bilateral collaboration.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan welcomed Sisi, calling the visit a turning point in relations. Erdogan said, “This visit reflects our shared commitment to deepening our partnership,” emphasising this new chapter.

The agreements expand collaboration to energy and culture. Turkiye’s plan to transport Egyptian natural gas to Europe is a crucial indicator of its desire to diversify energy supplies and reduce its dependence on Russia.

Both leaders established an ambitious objective to raise bilateral trade to $15 billion from $10 billion, with Turkish investments in Egypt presently at $3 billion. A joint declaration was also made to improve regional coordination on Gaza, Libya, and the Horn of Africa.

Erdogan had sworn not to meet with Sisi after Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood-led government was overthrown in 2013. Turkiye’s renewed collaboration shows its strategy to repair regional relationships. Sisi’s visit is expected to improve relations between the two countries.
