Ángel Di María has officially announced his retirement from Argentina’s national football team, bringing an end to a remarkable 16-year journey. Widely known as “El Fideo,” Di María leaves behind a lasting legacy, having contributed significantly to Argentina’s football history.

The 36-year-old winger participated in four FIFA World Cups (2010, 2014, 2018, and 2022), with a memorable run to the final in Brazil 2014. His crowning achievement came in 2022 when Argentina lifted the World Cup in Qatar. Di María’s contributions were crucial throughout his international career, helping lead Argentina to glory on multiple occasions.

In addition to his World Cup success, Di María played in consecutive Copa América finals (2015 and 2016), falling short to Chile in both instances. However, his defining Copa América moment came in 2021, when he scored the winning goal against Brazil in the Maracanã Stadium, securing the title for Argentina. The Rosario-born player also added another continental title to his name with Argentina’s 2024 Copa América victory.

Beyond his senior-level triumphs, Di María’s youth career was equally remarkable. He won the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2007 and earned a gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, showcasing his immense talent from an early age.

With his retirement, Di María bids farewell to an illustrious chapter, having cemented his place as one of Argentina’s football greats.
