ICU Global Youth Essay Competition 2024 | Free trip to Japan

The International Christian University (ICU) and the Japan ICU Foundation are organizing the ICU Global Youth Essay Competition 2024, and applications are already being accepted. In an effort to promote world peace, this online competition asks students all across the world to submit their opinions on current events and human rights.

Participants are required to select between two topics: promoting global peace or tackling a global issue that affects their community locally. Essays have to be written in English and must be 650 words. There is no admission charge.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Your essay needs to offer original ideas and answers.
  • Essays that provide “correct” answers that are already known will not be accepted by ICU.
  • The ICU’s Academic Integrity Policy and its rules regarding students’ use of generative AI must be followed by the competition.
  • By October 9, 2024, applicants must be between the ages of 14 and 18.
  • Candidates must not be Japanese citizens at this time.
  • Students attending college or university are not eligible.
  • English must be used when writing essays.
  • The essay’s title ought to convey its main idea.
  • Essay length shouldn’t go beyond 650 words.
  • Essays must be original; those that are not will be rejected.

Benefits:

  • There is no cost to participate.
  • First prize: The winner and a guardian will get two round-trip tickets to Tokyo, Japan in the summer of 2025, which will include an ICU visit. The winner also has the option of receiving 100,000 yen.
  • Second prize: A gift card worth 50,000 yen.
  • Third place: Given to ten victors, together with a copy of the ICU students’ translation of the “Illustrated Universal Declaration of Human Rights in English, French, and Japanese,”
  • A winner who has not received an English education for over a year will receive a special prize, which is equal to the third place.
