Looking for an American fellowship? The University of Michigan’s LSA Collegiate Fellowship 2024–2025 is now accepting applications. With an emphasis on fostering diversity, equality, and inclusion (DEI), this program encourages exceptional scholars in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA), which includes the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. This fellowship provides the chance for foreign researchers from non-traditional backgrounds to pursue an international fellowship in the United States.

In keeping with the University of Michigan’s five-year DEI plan, the 32 outstanding scholars who are committed to creating a diverse academic community are the target audience for the LSA Collegiate Fellowship. Through their work in service, research, mentoring, and teaching, fellows will support DEI. For this two-year fellowship, early-career researchers and those just starting out in academia are especially encouraged to apply, especially in the fields of literature, science, and the arts.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Within the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA), scholars in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences are eligible for the University of Michigan LSA Collegiate Fellowship.
  • Applicants in the natural sciences must have graduated with their PhDs between July 1, 2020, and January 1, 2020.
  • Doctorate degrees must be finished by July 1, 2025, for applicants in the humanities or social sciences, or by August 31, 2025, for applicants in the Department of Economics.
  • Those who have postdoctoral, teaching, or staff positions at the University of Michigan, or who obtained their PhD there, are not eligible to apply.
  • In addition to exhibiting a great commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, candidates must have accomplished outstanding scholarly work that is consistent with the department’s guiding principles.
  • Candidates that have the ability to be excellent mentors and teachers may be given priority in certain programs.

Benefits:

  • For a maximum of two years, LSA Collegiate Fellows will earn a salary of $66,000 in addition to benefits and money for conferences and research.
  • Fellows will concentrate on independent research and academic development during their fellowship at the University of Michigan. This will involve taking part in the LSA Teaching Academy and teaching in a classroom.
  • Following the fellowship, fellows will have the chance to move into tenure-track positions, and there’s even a chance they’ll be hired into these positions straight through the program.
  • Scholars will be provided with competitive wages, research funding, and benefits comparable to those of assistant professors in their departments, regardless of whether they begin on the tenure track or with an LSA fellowship.
